Canton is located in 8 of the Puntarenas province, covers an area of 993.91 km2 and provides its services to the districts of San Vito, Sabalito, Agua Buena, Limoncito and Pittier, has 47,247 inhabitants.

It is a technical specialist responsible for the conservation, management and use of natural resources located outside of Protected Areas, in line with economic and social development of the county.

It gives users the following services: environmental complaints handling, seals preventive, environmental education and community outreach, proceedings of logging permits, inspections, monitoring of projects under the Program Payment for Environmental Services, procedures for permits for Life Silvestre, environmental care consultation, technical assistance to community organizations, training for officials of the security forces and communities and others.
