Located in Canton 3 of the Puntarenas province, covers an area of 2382.61 km2, is the largest county in the Region Brunca. It has a population of 46000 inhabitants offers its services to the districts of Buenos Aires, Volcano, Potrero Grande, Boruca, Batteries, Hills, Cháguena, Biolley and Brunka.
It is a technical specialist responsible for the conservation, management and use of natural resources located outside of Protected Areas, in line with economic and social development of the county.
It gives users the following services: environmental complaints handling, seals preventive, environmental education and community outreach, proceedings of logging permits, inspections, monitoring of projects under the Program Payment for Environmental Services, procedures for permits for Life Silvestre, environmental care consultation, technical assistance to community organizations, training for officials of the security forces and communities and others.
Overview of Canton
Its name comes from the constant breeze that blows in the area, such as air currents coming from the Pacific Ocean, and in summer the winds from north to south they are very strong.

Indigenous groups present in the canton of Buenos Aires are: the Bribri indigenous territory in the Nitrate and Cabagra; the Cabécares in Ujarrás, the Indian Territory Borucas in Boruca and Terra in the Indian Territory Boruca-terre.
The economic activities of the canton are: agriculture, emphasizing the cultivation of pineapple and livestock.
